The MOI has requested all the drivers to ensure the passenger travelling in your vehicle has a valid iqama. It is the responsibility of every taxi, small vehicle who is either transporting the passenger from one point to another.
A fine of SR 100,000/, 6 months jail term and deportation can be issued to the driver in case of violation. This is applicable to passengers who either don't have their iqama with them or are carrying an expired iqama.
Following are the list of penalties on transporting illegal residents;
- For the first instance, the carrier will be fined SR 15,000 and a month's imprisonment.
- At second instance, fine of SR 30,000 and 3 months imprisonment.
- On the 3rd instance, fine of SR 100,000 and 6 months imprisonment.
- Fines will be multiplied with the number of illegal passengers found in the vehicle.
- If the driver is an expat, the driver's driving license and the iqama will be terminated. Upon completion of the sentence, the driver will be deported.
- The vehicle will be confiscated in case of repeated violation.
