6 Things I miss the most when I am not in Saudi Arabia

Life in Saudi Arabia is just close to perfect although it can be a bit boring for some expats because of no nightlife and no entertainment as such. The source of enjoyment on weekends are family meet ups, malls, eating out, going to parks and sometimes visiting Jeddah or Dammam for beach. But living in the kingdom for almost a decade made me used to of certain things I expect to see in other countries as well.

Here are some of them, maybe you can also relate too.

1. Being close to the 2 Holy Mosques

Masjid Al Haraam - The Holy Ka'aba - Makkah

The Mosque of the Holy Project (Peace Be Upon Him)
The Two Holy Mosques of Mecca and Medina and its serenity, even when you are surrounded by millions. And to see how cultures merged and all the races, people of every single skin color, all bowing down in one direction. All in one place.

2. The road network

Roads, by roads I meant widest roads and those Porsche roaming around.

Airport Road - Riyadh

With the arrival of petrodollars, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has initiated many mega infrastructure development projects in the country, and the extensive development of the transportation network has followed suit in support of various economic developments. As a result, the country now boasts an extensive transportation network.

3. Food to die for

Delicious food, Arabic, Lebanese, Shawarma and Mandi simply mouth watering. You can’t find anything like it anywhere else.

4. The Holy month of Ramadan

Ramadan is fantastic there. You see the best of Saudi Arabia during this month. The people are kind to the less fortunate. It is impossible to walk down the street at dusk without being invited to Iftaar with someone. I miss the special taste of the dates that can only be found in Saudi Arabia.

5. Getting to hear Adhan 5 times a day

Hearing the Adhan live. Can’t explain how it feels when you hear the Adhan live for the first time after a long time. Here's a video of a Adhan from the Prophet's Mosque in Madina Al Munawara.

It just breaks your heart. Nowhere in the whole world gives time for you to pray except in Saudi Arabia. Everything will be closed except mosques during prayers times. So that you can easily concentrate on your prayers.

6. T.G.I.F

Fridays is when the residents and citizens rest through-out the day. Given the hot temperature, the residents spend their days in doors and head out only in the evening.

What do you love or miss the most about Saudi Arabia? We would love to hear from you. Let us know in your comments below.
