Read this before you violate any traffic rules in Saudi Arabia

The ministry of Finance and Economic planning has recently decided to revise the traffic violations penalties which is effective from 1st Muharram 1438 that is 2nd October 2016 respectively.

  • Penalties on hit and run: 10,000 SR fine will be imposed on hit and run or a 3 months prison or both.
  • 3,000 SR will be fined for violation the rules of illegal number plate and for crossing red light signal.
  • Stunt driving will be fined 20,000 SR including vehicle seizing for 15 days or more.
  • Second time violator has to pay 30,000 SR and for the third timer 60,000 SR.
  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol the person will be fined 5,000 SR.
  • Anyone who seize the driving license/istimara or give it on mortgage will be fined 1,000- 2,000 SR.
Very recently, expatriates in Saudi Arabia are gripped by rumors of SR 6,000 fine for crossing a red-light. Taxi drivers in Jeddah who are often abused when stopping on the right side of the signal when red have also reported to have been fined.
